Reston Station exemplifies the value of using state of the art parking equipment and creative operational solutions to solve complex parking problems.
The Reston Station garage spans 8 floors, across multiple interconnected garages, and includes over 2500 parking spaces. The spaces service retail, office, and residential parkers. In managing the garage, ParkX employed a variety of creative solutions to streamline the parking process.
Each garage entry is equipped with a state-of-the-art license plate recognition system (LPR) that allows for seamless monthly parking access, as well as rapid transient parking servicing. The system automatically generates parking fees for transient parkers based on their license plate, removing the need for parking ticket retention. This not only improves the overall parking experience for visitors but also reduces congestion and improves traffic flow in the surrounding area. ParkX designated food delivery pick up spaces near elevators, allowing food pick-ups to enter and exit the garage. This massively reduced congestion on the plaza, which was instrumental in allowing ParkX’s valet team to effectively operate.
In addition to LPR, ParkX led the install of innovative electric vehicle (EV) charging stations that supports both Level 1 and Level 2 charging. Each charging station is equipped with a sophisticated back-end management system that tracks usage and billing, allowing ParkX to optimize the charging station’s operation and maintain its performance. ParkX is also able to add EV charge directly to customer’s parking ticket, removing the need for customers to pay for charging through a 3rd party app.
ParkX utilizes clear and direct static and dynamic signage, which guides both monthly and transient parkers where to park. On the Reston Station Plaza, ParkX utilizes dynamic signage to manage a reversible gate system. The gate system allows office parkers to enter the garage via the plaza in the morning, before reversing to an exit in the afternoon, thus allowing office parkers to exit the garage at the end of their workday and reducing congestion at other garage gates.
In short, Reston Station is a model for how creative operator thinking and state of the art parking equipment can work together to solve any parking problem.
